Bringing together 11 multidisciplinary partners and six associated partners, Hemp4Circularity (H4C) aims to promote the development of a structured, local and circular long-fibre textile hemp sector.
Officially launched on 6 and 7 June 2023, this three-year project is supported by the European Union via the Interreg North-West Europe programme (a transnational cooperation programme), with a total budget of €3,800,000.
Hemp4Circularity is an Interreg NWE project that aims to implement an innovative, local and biobased fibre - long fibre Hemp - in the textile value chain of North-West Europe, from growers to weavers and knitters, from the field to fashion.
The project has set up pilot actions at several stages of the value chain (growing, mechanical harvesting and scutching, agricultural data, spinning and weaving) in order to optimise every stage of the production process and ensure the sustainable development of the sector, from the fibre to recycling solutions.
Hemp has been grown and processed by humans for thousands of years, and today its use is being re-examined in the light of the modern challenges facing the fashion and home-decoration markets. Technological innovation, environmental requirements, changes in the markets and new consumer expectations are all reshaping the framework within which design operates, with a shared objective: to combine performance, meaning and creativity.
