Against the backdrop of accelerating environmental, industrial and societal changes, the European Flax-Linen and Hemp industry is at the heart of major collective dynamics. The Alliance offers brands and international retailers a comprehensive system to sustainably improve the performance of their environmental footprint.
Growing demand for natural, traceable fibres is bringing renewed attention to these ancient crops. Today, the qualities and assets of these European fibres are fully aligned with ecological and social expectations. New requirements also go hand in hand with growing awareness of the importance of transparency, innovation, the reliability of evidence and alignment with European regulations.
The Alliance for European Flax-Linen & Hemp was born of the collective will of women and men committed to building and promoting a European industry of excellence, from field to finished product, from producer to consumer. It is the only agro-industrial organisation to play a global leadership role as European Flax fibre production represents 3/4 of the world’s production. It brings together all stakeholders in the value chain – 10,000 companies in 16 countries. As the guarantor of technical, scientific, environmental and economic data on European Flax, the Alliance also offers two recognised certifications of origin: Masters of FLAX FIBRE™ and Masters of LINEN™.
Together with its members and international partners, the Alliance’s goal is to make European flax-linen and Hemp the preferred sustainable fibres throughout the world, and to fulfil its role as an industry accelerator, giving new meaning to creation, production, distribution, consumption and the future of textile markets. Today, winning over and convincing consumers using evidence is the key to meeting CSR requirements and the expectations of all stakeholders in the value chain.
Gradual implementation from January, 1st 2026 to March 2027
All information, detailed schedule and related technical documents are available on the web site.
The new system will be rolled out gradually, taking into account both a transition period (by subject and by profession) and the textile market calendar.
